Project 3: Portrait Photography and Lighting (14 images total) Objective: Students will use their understanding of lighting in photography to take portraits in both natural and studio lighting.
Rename final choices as yournameportraitExperiment1, yournameportraitExperiment2 etc.

Lighting Experiment 4 (2 images) Split lighting
-Get your subject close to a light source.
- Place subject and yourself at a 90 degree angle.
You want the light to only be hitting your subject at a 90 degree angle. This helps to create that look of only one side of your subject having light and the other in complete darkness.
-Look for a line down the center of the scene.
Since your subject should be at a 90 degree angle you should see a line of light running down the middle of their face. If you don’t see that line your subject may have moved and is no longer at a 90 degree angle.
-Convert to black and white.
This is a personal choice it will make your image a little more dramatic and really draws the viewer in to see the light and dark sides of the image. You can also use your burn tool in Photoshop to help darken the side that is not facing the light
Project 4 Image Remake Objective: You will be recreating a famous image/painting using photography.

You will need to transform that model into the image of your choice thinking about lighting, costume, and background. This is a studio assignment and you will be shooting inside meaning that you can control all of the elements. Only basic edits may be done in photoshop. You NEED to consider your composition, background, lighting etc. while you are shooting. Step 1: Choose an image to recreate. If you are having trouble look at the following artists; Frida Kahlo, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Alice Neel, Renoir, Mary Cassatt, Roy Litchenstein, Pablo Picasso, John Singer Sargent, Gauguin, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Vincent Van Gogh, Leonardo Da Vinci. You may also choose an appropriate album cover, or celebrity What are you recreating?Be specific_ Print out a copy of your image in color and save a copy of the jpeg in your Folder Step 2: Make a list of items that you need in order to complete your image, think about costume, headwear, makeup, and background as well as props such as chairs, tables, etc Step 3: Meet with your model to discuss costuming and props. Step 4: Collect and create the necessary items needed for a successful shoot. There is plenty of fabric, accessories and costumes available in the art room.We also may be able to borrow from theater if applicable. Also think about what you may need and bring from home. Store items in your cubby Step 5: Once you have collected all items you are ready to shoot. Set up your scene with your model, lighting and props. You will have one class period to take your photos. Step 6: Create folder named “remake” in your digital photography folder. Download all images to your folder. Step 7: Choose your best photo and rename as “remakeyouname” Step 8: Basic Editing in Lightroom may be done for color, contrast, imperfections ect. export as JPG document “remakeyourname.JPG” Upload requirements to website as stated above
